Fred Stemp, tech ed teacher at Williamsburg, has been awarded the Virginia State Middle SchoolTechnology Education Program of the Year 2006 for excellence of instruction, laboratory facilities and professionalism. Nominated by Kris Martini,supervisor, career and tech ed, Mr. Stemp re-ceived the award on Aug. 2, during the VirginiaTechnology Education Association’s annualconference. Mr. Stemp is vice president of VTEA. His program was chosen over severalothers from throughout the state. Some of theoutstanding activities in Mr. Stemp’s classroominclude 14 modules, a robotic arm lab, CO2 drag-sters, innovation boards, mousetrap racecars, simple machines, bridge design, and wood and plastics projects. Mr. Stemp has been with WMS for 11 years and has been teaching for 27 years. He also will receive the International Technology Education Association Award inMarch in San Antonio, Texas.
